How to set ACSM files to open by default with ADE

Problem

An ACSM file is downloaded but does not open automatically in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), even though ADE is already installed and authorised.

Solution

Follow these steps so that every time you download an ACSM file it opens by default in Adobe Digital Editions:

1. On the Windows task-bar, click the search box and type Default apps. Select the Default apps option that appears.

2. Click Choose default apps by file type.

3. In the list on the left, scroll down to .acsm.

4. Click the box with a + symbol and choose Adobe Digital Editions.

You can now close the window, return to your library, download the ACSM file for the loaned title again, and it should open automatically in Adobe Digital Editions.
