We are referring to the advanced search in the OPAC, where we want to perform a cumulative search, that is, apply more than one criterion manually in the same search.
Case (following an example)
You want to find a title by a specific author.
First, a manual search by author is performed and then the title is manually applied, thus performing a cumulative search without applying filters.
When this is done, it does not return the expected data. If the steps taken in the search are changed, it gives different results...
Basically, it may seem that there is an inconsistency in the search results or that the search engine does not work as expected.
Resolution (following an example)
The method explained in the "problem" for how the search is being performed is correct, but if the steps are followed "more carefully," the functionality can be better understood, so I will explain it step by step using the same example:
- When searching manually through the advanced search, it is a predictive search engine, that is, as you type, it offers the different existing options (without considering accents and case - upper/lowercase)

2. But as shown in the screenshot, the same author is written in different ways (depending on how the publishers cataloged the contents that have been acquired)
- If you select a specific author from those that appear, the results will be limited exclusively to those where the author is cataloged exactly as it appears and as you selected.
- If you do not select any of the suggested authors, but instead type it manually, the search does consider accents, uppercase, and lowercase letters.
For this reason, if you search, for example: becquer nothing is retrieved, but if you search for: Bécquer since that word is cataloged, results are returned.
In fact, as you can see in the screenshot from point 1, all the options given by the search engine while typing the author's name have in common the word "Bécquer" (and written the same way) so if you search that way, all content by that author will be retrieved (regardless of the publisher and how that metadata was cataloged).

3. Once the author issue is clarified, we perform another search for the title "Rimas" cumulatively.
- If you search through the advanced search, you will encounter the same situation explained in the previous points: data-id="38"Title" as you type, you will get a series of predictive options, but if you do not select any option and just search what you typed, it will search exactly as you wrote it and generally, it won't return results.
- But through the advanced search, in "All", this section is predictive, that is, it does not require you to type the entire title (with correct accents and form), so for this requirement it would be the best way to perform cumulative searches (when you do not want to use filters)
Additionally, if you perform a manual search through the advanced search with 2 or more words, for example: "Matemáticas aplicadas", the result will be: first all content about matemáticas aplicadas + then all content about matemáticas + all content about aplicadas, since the search engine by default operates under the boolean command OR, although this can be changed to the AND command by submitting a ticket request to our Support department.
